Jose Mourinho has confirmed that injured pair Jesse Lingard and Scott McTominay could make a return to action for Manchester United’s meeting with Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Lingard, a fundamental part of Mourinho’s team last season, has not played since the defeat to Derby County last month due to a groin problem.
Alexis Sanchez, Marouane Fellaini, Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo are all on the sidelines as well.
Speaking at his Friday press conference, Mourinho revealed that Lingard had not come back from the World Cup – during which he played six times – with a hangover from the past campaign’s efforts.

"He's almost there," explains the boss on @JesseLingard. "Can he help us in the next match? That's the question we have to answer tomorrow, or wait one more week." #MUFC pic.twitter.com/NV1o126wDj

Mourinho: “Lingard? He came from the World Cup with that problem. He thought wrongly that the holiday period would bring things to normality. He felt in an impossible situation to play football. Now he is going back and doing the work to be 100%. He’s almost there.” #mufc

You got the sense that Lingard, after a season in which he made 48 appearances and played in a World Cup semi-final, would need to be eased back in the following campaign, and such has proved to be the case.
He was not bursting up the pitch with his usual spring and precision in games against Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley or Watford. The decision to take some time off to properly rehabilitate is a wise one.
Mourinho added that Sanchez, along with McTominay, Fellaini and Dalot, had come back from the international break with a nagging injury, and had only come on against Chelsea to help the team when there were no other options.
Mourinho: “Sanchez? In this moment he’s struggling because he’s injured. He came to the Chelsea match to help the team. He’s not available for tomorrow. This season he had a good start, pre-season, he started well against Leicester then he was injured.” #mufc
