Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has earmarked Jose Mourinho as the ideal candidate to replace Julen Lopetegui but will wait until he is sacked before appointing him, according to reports from Spain.
Spanish media outlet El Chiringuito reported soon after Lopetegui had suffered a fourth defeat in five games over the weekend that Mourinho had been lined up as his successor.
Mourinho, responding to the reports, made it clear on Monday that he was committed to his contract at Old Trafford and stressed he wanted to stay beyond his current deal.
According to El Pais, Perez will wait until Mourinho is sacked before handing him the reins at the Bernabeu – presumably to save the club from shelling out a considerable sum to extract the 55-year-old from United.
Real Madrid are waiting for Jose Mourinho to be sacked and will then appoint him as manager.
President Florentino Pérez sees him as ‘shock therapy’ and wants an ‘authoritarian leader’.

Madrid have been drifting as a team even before Lopetegui took charge and Perez, according to reports, wants Mourinho act as an “authoritarian” leader to provide “shock therapy” to a depleted group of players.
On the surface, it makes sense. As a long term strategy, it seems almost suicidal. The way United have degenerated this season – coupled with the fact that Mourinho and Madrid have encountered conflict in the past – should be enough evidence that they should look elsewhere.
