Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was full of praise for Ross Barkley after his performance against Spain on Monday night.
As reported by the club’s official website, Alonso spoke very highly of his Chelsea compatriot after the Three Lions saw off Spain with an impressive 3-2 victory in the UEFA Nations League.
He’s a great player. He showed it not just last night but against Croatia too. He showed that he can be a great player. I hope he keeps improving and that he helps us at Chelsea to stay near the top.
The Chelsea midfielder made his return to the England squad during the most recent international break and has impressed against Croatia and Spain.
Starting in a midfield three, similar to the system implemented at Chelsea, Barkley played a key role in the victory against Spain.
It was Barkley who played a brilliant chipped ball over the top to Harry Kane, who put the ball on a plate for Raheem Sterling to score his second of the game, giving England a 3-0 lead against Spain.
The impressive international break sees Barkley continue his fine run of form after breaking into the Chelsea side under Maurizio Sarri this season.
