Inter Milan are struggling to agree on a new contract with Chelsea target Mauro Icardi, according to reports from Italy.
It’s claimed by Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by Calciomercato, that Inter are not currently offering a contract that aligns with the salary demands set by the forward’s entourage.
Chelsea have recently been linked with an ambitious January move for Icardi as Maurizio Sarri looks to add a high-quality striker to his pool of options following Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata’s misfiring starts to the season.
Icardi’s current contract is believed to contain a release clause worth £97.5 million, which comes into activation at the end of the season.

However, Inter have been keen to tie Icardi down to a new and improved deal at San Siro. According to recent claims from the Italian media, however, talks have reached an impasse.
It’s reported that Inter are willing to offer the Argentina international a salary worth €6.3 million per year, which is still a substantial amount lower than what the player’s entourage are supposedly demanding.
Gazzetta’s claims indicate that Inter will need to meet Icardi’s demands of €8 million per year if they are to ensure that his future lies in Milan.
Chelsea are sure to be closely monitoring the striker’s ongoing contractual standoff with Inter as the January transfer window draws ever closer for European clubs.
