Ashley Young believes Manchester United remain in a strong position in their Champions League group despite losing at home to Juventus.
Jose Mourinho’s men were notably second best against the Old Lady in a game which saw Paulo Dybala score an early goal before their defence killed the game after half time.
The result leaves Man United on four points after three match-days, with their next game coming away to Juventus on November 7.
Speaking after the game, Young was adamant that United were still in good stead to finish behind Juventus in second place.
“There are still plenty of points to play for in the group,” he said. “We’re in a decent position still, so there’s all to play for. There are plenty more games in the group and we need to finish strongly.”
Valencia’s unexpected draw away to Swiss side Young Boys meant United remain two points clear in second place. But with United set to lose in Turin and Valencia likely to win the reverse fixture at the Mestalla, that will place them ahead of Mourinho’s side with two games left.
After that, United play Young Boys at home – which could honestly go any way – while Valencia probably lose to Juventus in Turin, making their visit to Spain on December 12 the decisive encounter.
