Wilfried Zaha could have been one of the best players at Manchester United had Sir Alex Ferguson not retired during the forward’s time at the club.
That’s what Glenn Murray has suggested, the former-Crystal Palace striker who played with Zaha at the London club.
It is now widely agreed upon that Zaha is one of the most exciting and effective players in the Premier League, particularly when compared to other players at clubs of Palace’s level.
He signed for Man United under Ferguson as the Scot’s last signing at the club. But he only actually arrived at Old Trafford once Ferguson had gone and David Moyes had taken over. From there, he was never given a real chance at United and left reasonably quickly, heading back to Palace.
“Palace definitely bring the best out of him and I’m sure it would be a worry in Wilfried’s mind that if he was to move again it may not go as well,” Murray told talkSPORT.
“I’m sure he’ll be a little bit scarred from the Man United move.
“But for me, I’ve seen him come through as youngster and he is a fantastic player, the only way is up for him.
“And I honestly believe that if Fergie was still at Old Trafford when Wilfried went up there, he would be one of the best now.”
It is quite possible that Zaha could be enjoying a brilliant career at United had Ferguson stayed at the club. He was one of a number of players to unintentionally suffer from the great man’s retirement.
Academy players like Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley and Jonny Evans, as well as other young players like Rafael da Silva, were others who could still be at the club now if Fergie had stayed.
