Manchester United have finally found a long-term full-back in Luke Shaw, according to former-midfielder Darren Fletcher.
The Scot, who won almost everything there is to win while at Man United, praised Shaw on Wednesday night after Jose Mourinho’s side had comfortably dispatched of Swiss champions Young Boys.
A 3-0 victory was a fantastic start to United’s UEFA Champions League campaign where they have a reasonably tough group, including Juventus and Valencia. Shaw was impressive once again.
The ex-Southampton man has had a tough United career since moving from the South Coast in 2014. However, his first five games this season have been consistently superb and he’s rightly earning the plaudits.
“United may have answered their questions at full-back,” Fletcher told BBC Sport on Wednesday evening after the victory in Europe.
“Luke Shaw started the season fantastically and he looked good again this evening.”
Shaw suffered a concussion while on international duty with England and so missed United’s win against Watford last weekend, but came straight back in against Young Boys.
That’s a good sign, given there were some worries that Mourinho could choose to leave him out of the side for another game and then the rhythm that he’s got currently would have been disrupted.
