Paul Pogba has told Manchester United’s hierarchy he is determined to leave the club in the summer regardless of whether Jose Mourinho stays or not, according to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker.
The Frenchman’s relationship with Mourinho and the club’s supporters has worsened over the course of the year. He was stripped of the vice-captaincy in front of his teammates by the 55-year-old in response to publicly voicing his wish that Man United would attack more.
His fractured relationship with Mourinho was laid bare for all to see in a frosty exchange between the two on the training ground, which turned out to revolve around an Instagram video he posted during United’s defeat to Derby County in the League Cup.
According to Ducker, Pogba told the club seven weeks ago that he wished to leave for Barcelona irrespective of whether Mourinho maintained his position as manager.
Pogba visited Ed Woodward just before the Premier League season kicked off and told the vice-chairman that he wished to leave for Barcelona after his agent, Mino Raiola, had agreed personal terms with the club.
Woodward insisted Pogba would not be sold, but recent developments have made the move seem inevitable. That video, although ostensibly a humdrum misunderstanding, revealed to the entire world the sheer tension and near hatred between Pogba and his boss.
Barcelona are likely to take full advantage, and may even launch a bid in the January transfer window.
