Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs believes teammate and Manchester United target Harry Maguire could still complete a big money move away despite signing a new contract this month.
Maguire excelled for England during their trip to the World Cup semi-finals and attracted interest from Jose Mourinho in the summer.
Leicester refused to let him go and Maguire, in turn, recently penned a new five year deal at the King Power Stadium.
But Fuchs, speaking earlier this week, noted that it would nonetheless be unsurprising if Maguire did move to a top club in the future.
“Him signing a long-term contract with Leicester shows commitment and the club have done well keeping him because he is massively important for our team,” he said.
“But most likely a player like that will leave at some point, it’s just normal, for personal reasons as well because you want to excel in your career.
“It’s normal that when you play as great as he did at the World Cup and also put in constant good performances in the Premier League it obviously attracts bigger teams.”
Leicester tying Maguire down on a long-term contract by no means implies deal for the Englishman is completely off the table. All that has changed is potential suitors needing to make a higher bid and not having the same clout at the negotiating table.
There will no doubt be a release clause in that contract. Leicester will know the benefits of cashing in on a player who surprised everyone in the summer with his composure on the ball in a back three.
Whether United choose to revisit that avenue or not remains to be seen.
