Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas has revealed that he was “interested” in making a move back to Middlesbrough before he eventually signed for Bristol City on loan, according to a report on the Gazette Live.
Kalas has moved to Championship side Bristol City on a season-long loan deal and claims that he was open to the idea of moving back to Boro, where he has previously had two loan spells.
The centre-back was influential for Boro during the 2015/16 and helped them secure promotion to the Premier League.
Kalas was once again part of a promoted squad last season, as he played a huge part in Fulham’s rise to the top flight.
However, he decided to join Bristol City after being assured of a regular starting position.
With a bit of exaggeration, almost everyone wanted me from the second league. I was interested in Middlesbrough where I could go back.
That would have been nice because I have beautiful memories of the city. A coach I disagreed with at the time is not there any more, it would be nice to play there again.
The Czech international admitted that the Bristol City side isn’t filled with individual stars but he believes that if they can keep all their players fit, then they can push for a playoff position at the end of the season.
Kalas was part of Chelsea’s pre-season squad but Maurizio Sarri was happy to allow him to leave on a loan deal.
