Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar may be delaying contract talks with the Italian club due to interest from Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Skriniar has been a long-term target of Mourinho’s, but signed a deal at the Serie A side last year.
Now, though, the Slovakian is being watched closely by Man United who would be willing to give him a pay rise to make the move to England.
Skriniar, 23, joined Internazionale from Sampdoria for almost €30 million in 2017.
The club now want to extend his deal having seen his importance to the side, but he is unwilling to sign anything yet, according to Il Corriere dello Sport. La Gazzetta dello Sport, meanwhile, suggest that he is looking for an annual salary of £2.7m after tax and his current side won’t offer that much.
Unite, though, would be happy to pay that. The Reds have previously made offers to Inter for Skriniar, including one worth €65 million.
With Inter having signed Stefan de Vrij on a free transfer in the summer, Skriniar’s importance has diminished somewhat. He remains a fantastic central defender, but the Nerazzurri may be willing to cash in on him in January or next summer.
However, de Vrij may have arrived, but Miranda, Inter’s other defender, is ageing. Skriniar is the perfect long-term replacement as Inter look to get back to the top of the Italian league. They would certainly demand serious money from United for him.
