Chelsea may have received some good news ahead of Saturday’s game with Liverpool as three of the Reds’ best players missed training on Thursday.
Defender Virgil van Dijk, midfielder James Milner and forward Sadio Mane were all absent from training at Melwood as Jurgen Klopp’s side prepared for the upcoming game at Stamford Bridge.
Van Dijk was forced off early in the second half of Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Southampton with a rib injury and he wasn’t included in the matchday squad as the Reds lost their first game of the campaign to Chelsea in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp addressed Van Dijk’s injury earlier in the week by saying that it was improving but was still causing him some pain.
Mane and Milner played on Wednesday night and there is a chance that they were just having a rest after a busy period but Naby Keita and Fabinho, who started alongside Milner and Mane on Wednesday, did train with the squad, so the duo’s absence is worth noting.
