Paul Pogba has thanked Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, as well as his teammates, for allowing him to take a penalty against Young Boys.
The French midfielder had already netted one fantastic side-foot strike against the Swiss champions on Wednesday night, when the chance to finish from the penalty spot proposed itself.
Pogba had missed a penalty just a couple of weeks before, against Burnley in the Premier League. But Mourinho and his United teammates allowed him to try and amend for his error and Pogba duly delivered, striking home for his second of the game.
It was an important victory in a tough Champions League group for United that’ll see them have to take on both Juventus and Valencia, two impressive teams, to qualify.
“I didn’t have any doubts about taking the penalty,” Pogba told the club’s official television station, MUTV. “I know I missed [versus Burnley] – Joe [Hart] got me that time.
“I have the confidence of the players to let me take it so I thank them for that and thanks the manager for letting me take it as well. The most important thing is to put the ball in and that’s what happened and I’m happy.”
Two more goals for Pogba takes his tally up to four for the season. He’s had some struggles at Old Trafford, and was heavily linked with FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window. His comments hardly helped to douse those rumours, but United fans are now hoping to see some consistency from the £89 million man in the next few weeks.
