Paul Pogba has caused further uncertainty over his Manchester United future by once again refusing to rule out joining Barcelona.
The Frenchman recently said: “My future is currently in Manchester. I still have a contract, I’m playing there at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months.”
Many supporters have responded furiously to the claims, hitting out at Pogba for harbouring the wrong kind of attitude at a time when the club is struggling for results.
His latest quote, during which he mentions wearing a Barcelona shirt, will certainly not do anything to ameliorate the situation.
“To speak about a transfer… I am under contract,” he said.
“There have always been little things with the coach, our relationship is still the same, manager-player. So long as you see that I am not in a Barcelona shirt, that is because I am at United.”
It is unlikely that Pogba, through these cryptic statements, wants to intentionally cause a stir among supporters and undermine his manager. The 25-year-old tends to speak in this way: ambivalent in tone, largely telegraphed, as if keen to get the interview out the way.
That said, he very easily could have killed the talk dead. “I’m happy at United” would have been enough. But he didn’t say that. Supporters, therefore, have reason to be concerned.
