Paul Pogba has issued another cryptic comment regarding his links with a potential move to Barcelona in the future.
The Frenchman was reportedly subject to a bid from the La Liga champions worth £45m plus Andre Gomes and Yerry Mina, which Manchester United promptly rejected.
No move looked like going through this summer but Barcelona, encouraged by Mino Raiola’s desire to secure a deal with them, have by no means abandoned interest in the midfielder, and could look to make a January bid like they did with Philipe Coutinho.
Speaking earlier this week after joining France for international duty, Pogba refused to rule out the prospect of moving to Spain.
“A lot has been said, but that’s just how it was,” he said. “I have a contract at Manchester United, at the moment I’m playing there. But who knows what’s going to happen in the next months.”
Pogba will have no problem jumping ship should this season – like it may well do – descend into chaos and misery. This is a World Cup winner, a Champions League finalist, a titan of a midfielder who would fit into any starting XI across the globe.
More worryingly, his agent knows that. And if there’s a deal to be made with Barcelona, you can be sure he would pursue it until the very last.
For Pogba, playing alongside Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele at a truly historic club, stepping into the shoes of the legendary Andres Iniesta, would be a tantalising prospect. Put simply: United need to succeed on the pitch if they want to keep him.
