Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho spared a few moments to compliment Marouane Fellaini following his performance vs Watford.
The Belgian starred in the 2-1 win against the home side, putting in back to back solid displays for his club.
Fellaini was arguably better against Burnley before the international break but still earned plaudits due to his more direct contribute on Saturday evening.
The midfielder was given the nod over new United signing Fred once again but justified Mourinho’s decision.
Marouane’s excelled in his new look role as a deep-lying defensive midfielder who protects his centre-backs against any aerial or physical threats.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said: “I think he (Fellaini) is finding a simple way to think and play football not just being strong in the air and to help defenders against teams that play this way.
“Burnley and Watford both play with two strikers very direct with a lot of challenges in the air. Not just to do that job but the simple way he is thinking football is playing so we are happy with his contribution.”
Obviously Fred wouldn’t excel in such a role but perhaps he could feature instead of Nemanja Matic in the midfield three with Paul Pogba.
The Brazilian’s absence could actually do more with how he’s somewhat struggled to adjust to his new surroundings so far.
To be fair to him Fred hasn’t been poor but it’s obvious he’s more talented than he’s currently showing at the moment.
Naturally it will take time for him to get accustomed to United and the pace of the Premier League.
There’s no doubt he’ll eventually be given the right opportunity to shine and prove his worth.
