Jose Mourinho revealed before Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Watford that Luke Shaw could have played but was left out because of a lack of training time with the squad during the week.
The defender, voted the club’s ‘Player of the Month’ for August, suffered concussion on his return to the England side against Spain.
Mourinho said there was a chance for Shaw to play in Friday’s press conference but ultimately decided against including him in the match-day squad, with Ashley Young making his second start of the season at left-back instead.
Thankfully, though, the boss confirmed that Shaw was free of injury and would return for the visit to Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Mourinho: “He (Shaw) could from the medical point of view play, but he didn’t work with us all week. We felt that Luke not playing today was the best thing for the team and then he can come back without any kind of limitation next Wednesday.” #mufc [MEN]
