Lucas Torreira has revealed that he still can’t quite believe he is an Arsenal player ahead of the return of Premier League action (via Sport Witness).
Lucas Torreira has had a lightning-fast rise to the top of football, going from a young player in Italy’s Serie B to a key player for both Arsenal and the Uruguay national team at the World Cup.
The 22-year-old is just returning from an international break with his country but took time to sum up his current situation in an interview with Uruguayan radio.
“I’m every day with mates and with my girlfriend, it’s the best company we have,” the 22-year-old told Sport890.
“The people here are very cool, the fans received me in the best way.
“This is all new, the league is very different from the Italian.”
Torreira joined from Sampdoria in a €30 million deal, thus becoming the first Uruguayan to play for Arsenal.
“It’s a pride to be the first Uruguayan in Arsenal,” he went on.
“I always dreamed of playing in a club like that and I’m living it at 22 years old. Sometimes I find it hard to stop in time and see where I am.”
He’s had a rapid rise to the top of the game but still has a way to go. The next step for Lucas Torreira is to hold down a starting spot at Arsenal and that could begin with the trip to Newcastle on Saturday.
