Football.London journalist, Charles Watt has revealed why he thinks Bernd Leno hasn’t started for Arsenal yet (via Football.London).
It’s been one of the great mysteries this season why Bernd Leno hasn’t made his first start for the Gunners.
The £22.5 million summer signing is known for his ability on the ball but is yet to make a start despite the somewhat sketchy form of Petr Cech with his feet.
Now, Football.London’s Arsenal correspondent. Charles Watt has given an insight as to why he thinks Leno hasn’t been playing.
“None of us have seen what Leno has been like in training – there must be a reason why Emery isn’t playing him.
“The fact that Cech is still starting given how uneasy he is with the ball at his feet raises big questions about Leno in my opinion.
“We know he is good in terms of his distribution and playing out from the back – so there must be issues in terms of coming for crosses or shot stopping. I did hear that he made a major error in a behind closed doors friendly with Brentford that resulted in a goal.
“We will get to see him soon in the Europa League and Carabao Cup so we’ll be able to judge him for ourselves.”
It’s an interesting insight from a journalist with numerous connections at the club. Bernd Leno will surely make his debut eventually but it may not be for a while yet.
