Inter Milan are reportedly planning a move for Manchester United star Matteo Darmian next summer.
The defender was widely expected to complete a transfer in the past few months but nothing materialised.
With the transfer window officially shut it seems Darmian is set to stay for the upcoming season or at least until January.
The Italian will probably only provide cover for United’s existing full-back options should they suffer an injury or poor form.
Several clubs in the Serie A were said to have been interested in him but apparently weren’t willing to meet the club’s demands.
According to Manchester Evening News, Corriere dello Sport report that Inter have set up the foundations to sign Matteo as a free agent when his contract expires next summer.
The Red Devils were playing a risky game by trying to force clubs to meet their evaluation of the player knowing his contract ends soon.
They’ll now risk losing him for free or even for a much lower fee which is perhaps another thing Jose Mourinho is frustrated with.
It’s no secret Manchester United employed a ‘sell before you buy’ policy with the manager this summer and it’s heavily backfired on them so far.
