Paul Pogba’s potential move to Spanish champions FC Barcelona could be placed in jeopardy due to the player and agents financial demands.
The French midfielder flirted intermittently with Barcelona during the summer, as his relationship with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho appears to grow frostier and frostier as a season goes on.
Pogba, who won the World Cup in Russia this summer with his country, has a huge reputation despite two seasons at United in which he has not performed up to expectations.
The 25-year-old is drawing interest from Barcelona, but also from two other national champions, Juventus and Paris St Germain.
Spanish outlet Mondo Deportivo (via SportWitness) reported on Thursday that it will be “almost impossible” for Barcelona to sign Pogba either in January or in next summer’s transfer window. The two drawbacks for the La Liga side are the high agent fee which Pogba’s representative Mino Raiola would demand, as well as the potential wage demands of the player himself.
His agent was a huge beneficiary in the transfer that took him back to Man United from Juventus in the summer of 2016. Raiola technically “represented” United, Juventus and Pogba himself in a strange deal which saw him earn up to £40 million.
Mundo suggest that only Paris St Germain and Juventus would be able to afford a Pogba deal. Not only would his wage demands and agent fee be high, but United would also try to get as much for Pogba as possible having paid £89 million for his signature in 2016.
Transfer valuations have only risen since then, and therefore United will be correct to demand nearer £150 million or £200 million for midfielder Pogba.
The Spanish newspaper suggest that Juventus may be able to meet the demands of Pogba and Man United if they include forward Paolo Dybala as part of the deal, while Paris St Germain could afford it in terms of finances anyway.
