David de Gea has insisted that the most important aspect of yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers was the return of Sir Alex Ferguson to Old Trafford.
The football world was shocked back in May when it was revealed the former Manchester United manager had been admitted to intensive care after suffering a stroke in his home.
He has thankfully made a full recovery and received a rapturous welcome on his first visit to Old Trafford since Man United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal in late April.
De Gea, who made a series of important saves against Wolves, took to social media after the game to send a message of support to the Boss.
The best of today was seeing you back at Old Trafford Sir Alex pic.twitter.com/X9h0cUEWet

This was more than just a heartwarming moment. This was a genuine triumph which does not require a trophy at the end.
Football is an ever-fluctuating, constantly ongoing process but life itself can be stripped away from you in an instant. What happened to Ferguson, although we don’t have all the details, was genuinely life-threatening. A brain haemorrhage at any age can have serious implications.
But it is a testament to the man himself that, four months, he was back at Old Trafford and in good spirits. That, right there, is what you call a real victory.
