Chelsea were reportedly keen to sign Elseid Hysaj and Piotr Zielinski from Napoli in the summer transfer window.
The Blues, following the arrival of Maurizio Sarri as the club’s new first-team manager, were believed to have identified several Napoli stars as transfer targets ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
Their alleged efforts to land Hysaj and Zielinski proved to be unsuccessful, with Napoli keen to retain the services of the impressive duo. According to Calciomercato, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are set to firm up their stance on the pair’s future at the club by handing them new respective contracts.
Hysaj has been impressive for Napoli since his arrival at the Stadio San Paolo, with a host of clubs across Europe reportedly expressing an interest. It’s claimed that the Albanian international’s deal will now be extended until the summer of 2023.
Zielinski, too, looks set to see his deal extended until 2023, with the inclusion of a mammoth release clause worth €100 million planned by Napoli.
Agreements in principle with both players’ agents have reportedly been reached by the Serie A giants, as they continue to push on with their efforts to tie key players down for the long-term future.
