Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has slammed Chelsea for ‘lacking class’ after his side failed in a move to sign Tammy Abraham.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, the Cardiff boss revealed conversations with Chelsea over a deal to sign the striker on loan but admits he had no idea the club were going to send him to Aston Villa instead.
I was really disappointed they didn’t even come back to me. I thought I at least deserved a phone call saying ‘sorry Neil, he’s not joining’. It might have been because our deadline was three weeks before the Championship’s.
Perhaps they weren’t sure at the time and then he ends up leaving at the end of the month, when only a move to a Championship club is possible. But even then, a phone call would have been better and shown a bit of class.
Abraham was coming off the back of a mixed loan spell at Swansea City and Cardiff offering the player another season in the top flight.
However, the Blues opted to send the player to promotion-chasing Aston Villa, who it could be argued, will be playing more attacking football this season, which the club will hope brings the best out of Abraham.
The striker was a target for a wealth of clubs over the summer and Tottenham even reportedly had a last-minute bid to sign Abraham rejected.
