Santi Cazorla has hinted at the advice he gave to Unai Emery when he was made head coach of Arsenal this summer.
Santi Cazorla was the subject of a fascinating interview with Sid Lowe which was published over the weekend.
In the piece, the former Arsenal man went into detail on the injury and personal problems he has faced in the last few years as well as some insight into Arsenal.
Cazorla departed the club over the summer, shortly before Unai Emery was appointed the head coach and now, he has given some thoughts on the fellow Spaniard.
Cazorla claimed Emery was “an important change and I think in the long term it will be good. He’s a great coach and I think he needs a period of adaptation but I think he can give them a leap in quality.

“I didn’t know him but in the summer [Emery] called me to find out about the team and the club, for a bit more info. It’s normal to speak to someone who has been inside for their view. I told him what I thought: the things that he had to change and the things he had to reinforce.
“And what were they? No. I can’t say that. That’s a secret. But I was clear, direct: I said that it was an incredible club, that had everything it needed to win, but that there were things that had to change. I said it would be hard to change some of them.
“Arsene was there for 23 years and changing 23 years overnight … it needs time. It’s an opportunity for [Emery] to take a club like Arsenal and try to make them champions which is what I want and what all Gunners want. I think they have chosen well.”
It’s an interesting series of quotes from Santi Cazorla. It would be fascinating to know what he said to Emery about Arsenal and maybe one day we will find out.
