Back in December 2016, Arsenal demolished West Ham United 5-1 at the Olympic Stadium.
The best player on the pitch that day was Alexis Sanchez, who, playing down the middle, scored a scintillating hat-trick and terrorised West Ham all game. He was magical, a class above.
Just over a year later, Manchester United signed him. And nine months on, many supporters are wishing the club didn’t bother. The Chilean, stranded out wide with no movement at all, only has three goals to his name and only two noteworthy performances – against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur last season.
Something has to change with Alexis. And with that in mind, here is how Man United could line up for their trip to West Ham in the first place.
Mourinho will know something has to change. Not just with Sanchez but indeed how his team attacks more generally.
The answer is not easy, and possibly out of Mourinho’s grasp on a tactical level. But switching to a back three, which has often served United well in away games like these, feels like a good quick fix, and will at least get Sanchez more into the game against a team he has historically done very well against.
