Manchester United are reportedly lining up a bid for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline day in the UK.
The summer transfer window slams shut at 5PM on Thursday as Premier League clubs rush to get their key deals done ahead of the 2018-19 season, and Man United are yet to address a major area of concern within the squad.
Jose Mourinho prioritised the signing of a centre-back this summer but nothing has seemed to materialise and now United are set make their biggest move of the window in the coming days.
Sky Sports News report that United are preparing to make a bid for Maguire before the transfer window closes and are aware that they may have to pay a world-record fee for a centre-back to secure his services.
It is believed that the 25-year-old is Mourinho’s no. 1 defensive target, despite heavy links with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, and the player is also interested in a move to Old Trafford.
Sky also state that if a move for Maguire, who impressed the nation at the World Cup this summer, doesn’t materialise, both Alderweireld and another star from Russia, Barcelona’s Yerry Mina, are also on his shortlist.
The name that United will bring to the club, if any, this week remains in limbo.
