Mark Hughes, Teddy Sheringham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney all helped make the no. 10 shirt as iconic as it is today at Manchester United, and now the shirt has a new owner.
Step forward Wythenshawe-born Marcus Rashford, the wonderkid from Manchester was nowhere near the first team three years ago but now carries one of the heaviest legacies in the club’s long history.
It was revealed on Sunday that Rashford was to wear the no. 10 shirt for his first game back from his holidays when many expected him to slip on his no. 19 after only upgrading from no. 39 last summer.
Following United’s final pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich, a 1-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena, on Sunday evening, Marcus Rashford tweeted his delight:
Rashford will be hoping to play a part in Mourinho’s plans once again throughout the upcoming campaign, despite being behind Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the attacking pecking order.
He also has best friend Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial, if he remains at the club, to fight for places with – a task that will only make him a stronger player.
The Manchester-born star’s future at the club is undoubtedly bright though, and United supporters can’t wait to see just how much of a player he turns out to be at Old Trafford.
