Manchester United have reportedly found a back-up to Ivan Perisic in Napoli’s Dries Mertens as they continue their attempts to strengthen their side before the transfer window ends.
With less than two weeks left, the pressure is on for Ed Woodward to deliver Jose Mourinho some signings after the manager publicly expressed his desire to bring in two more players.
However, the Portuguese believes he only thinks one signing will happen but did not reveal which position the potential signing will play in.
Perisic has long been a target of Mourinho’s with the boss even publicly admitting his confusion over why the Croat didn’t join last summer.
It also appears this time around the winger won’t be leaving Inter Milan either and so the former Real Madrid manager has turned his attention to Mertens.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils may consider approaching Dries and submitting a £35m bid for him as an alternative to Ivan.
A winger has long been of interest to Jose but it was believed there were more crucial areas on the pitch to address such as the centre-back spot.
However, no real progress has been made there either and it could be that the manager has felt it’s better to turn his attention elsewhere.
