Manchester United players believe Jose Mourinho is just one defeat away from being sacked by the club following a tumultuous start to the 2018/19 campaign, according to reports.
The 55-year-old, who cut a sombre figure all summer, won against Leicester City on the opening day of the season but fell under widespread criticism following an awful defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.
His side’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at home on Monday – Mourinho’s biggest ever loss at home – has considerably ratcheted up the pressure surrounding his job.
And according to the Daily Mail‘s Chris Wheeler, there is a belief in the dressing room that defeat away to Burnley would prove to be the final nail in Mourinho’s coffin.
The last time United lost three games in a row happened under Louis van Gaal during that horrible month of December 2015. He absolutely should have been sacked at that point.
Those in the dressing room, according to the report, sense the same air of gloomy inevitability about United’s situation they felt back then. Losing to Burnley, who have one point from three games and play a crucial Europa League game on Thursday, could may well take Mourinho past the point of no return in the eyes of Ed Woodward.
