Jose Mourinho is understandably delighted with the strong form Luke Shaw has shown at the start of the 2018-19 season, in what is one of the very few positives to take for Manchester United at the moment.
The 23-year-old netted his first ever senior goal in the opening day 2-1 win against Leicester City and has looked like the prospect Louis van Gaal signed from Southampton back in 2014 in all three outings so far.
Mourinho has been highly critical of Shaw during his tenure as Man United manager, sometimes publicly which has sparked controversy, but it finally seems like the left-back has won him over.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s visit to Burnley, Mourinho explained: “We are very, very happy with him and I think to go to the national team after three Premier League matches, for him, is an extraordinary feeling.”
Shaw’s early form has not only seen him selected over Mourinho’s first choice left-back option Ashley Young, but also earnt a recall to Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
He hasn’t represented England since March 2017 but is now in very good sted to feature against Spain and Switzerland at Wembley Stadium and good displays there will only strengthen his chances of continuing to start in Man United’s back line.
