Jose Mourinho certainly hasn’t held back when defending Manchester United’s dismal start to the 2018-19 season and he’s now reminded the media of his pedigree as a football manager.
Following a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday, Mourinho’s worst ever at home, speculation grew that his Man United departure was imminent but it sounds as if he’s not planning on going anywhere.
Mourinho has never exactly been shy about his accomplishments as a manager and he’s now come out and boldly said that he’s one of the best in the game.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s visit to Burnley, Mourinho was straight up with the journalists present: “I am the manager of one of the greatest clubs in the world but I am also one of the greatest managers in the world.”
A defeat at Turf Moor this weekend would crank up the pressure on the Portuguese boss even further, but various reports suggest his position is secure whatever happens and his relationship with United chief executive Ed Woodward is ‘as strong as ever’.
Mourinho cut a moody figure throughout most of pre-season due to the club’s struggles to sign a new central defender, and the failure to do so is certainly costing the team so far.
United will be even further behind their Premier League title rivals before kick-off on Sunday though, so an upturn in results is needed urgently.
