Jose Mourinho has once again played the past achievements card when defending himself over Manchester United’s poor start to the 2018-19 season.
The Man United manager has been heavily speculated to either leave the club or get sacked before the campaign is over after losing two of the opening three Premier League games, including his worst ever home defeat last time out.
Since the 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, Mourinho has come out fighting against the British media and made his latest point during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
Addressing the media ahead of Sunday’s visit to Burnley, Mourinho stated: “I’m the only manager to win eight titles in Italy, Spain and England – not small titles – and second place last season was one of my greatest achievements.”
Mourinho’s successful history with winning trophies has given him the reputation of one of the world’s best managers and made him the prime candidate to replace Sir Alex Ferguson when the legendary Scot retired back in 2013.
He did eventually become United boss in 2016 though and has won three trophies since but many supporters still consider his methods as dated and boring.
Regardless, he isn’t talking like a man who is about to resign and it’s clear he wants to see an upturn in form from his team more than anyone else.
