Matteo Darmian has already confirmed his desire to leave Manchester United this summer and Jose Mourinho is more than willing to let him go.
There have been a number of suitors over the course of the transfer window, primarily from Serie A, but none have managed to match Man United’s £18m valuation.
It now seems like there is a new club interested in the 29-year-old’s services with less than a month of the overseas transfer window remaining.
The Mirror report that Benfica have started negotiations with United for Darmian and both clubs agree that a permanent move would be preferred over a loan spell.
The Italy international is thought to have his heart set on a return to his homeland though – amid interest from Juventus, Napoli and both Milan outfits – after Benfica’s failed attempt to lure him to Portugal back in January.
However, Darmian is expected to be happy to move to Benfica if his £70,000-per-week wages are met and it could be a likely destination for him.
Mourinho’s decision to sign Porto right-back Diogo Dalot as competition for Antonio Valencia back in June all-but ended the chances of Darmian being in the United manager’s plans for the 2018-19 season and his career at Old Trafford could be coming to a close very soon.
