Mourinho finally opens up on Ronaldo's transfer to Juventus

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has rather sportingly congratulated Juventus for completing the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese boss labelled it the most complete transfer, sparking even more confusion over why he wasn’t attempting to sign the former Real Madrid man himself.

Mourinho once spoke about the possibility of signing Ronaldo, believing it was impossible but once it became possible, there was an expectation he’d fight for the signature.

Perhaps it was Ed Woodward or the United hierarchy who opted against the deal due to financial reasons but it’s all still pretty bizarre given the calibre of player discussed.

Nonetheless, the former Real Madrid manager has claimed the transfer will have an effect on leagues throughout Europe as the powers shift within certain clubs.

According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said to Tele Radio Stereo: “La Liga no longer has the two best players in the world. Now one’s in Spain and the other’s in Italy.

“England have the Premier League, the most competitive championship, with top quality players, one of the most important leagues in the world. So now there are three dimensions.

“Now everyone looks at Italy for Ronaldo, the Premier League because it’s the best league and Spain for Messi. Serie A has become one of the most important championships in the world.

“In football, everything can change. If it changes the perspectives of teams like Inter, AC Milan and Roma, if they don’t passively accept Juve with Cristiano becoming stronger, that they will win again and again, and can also find the right motivations from this deal, it can change Serie A in terms of quality, emotions and exposure.

“For this reason, I congratulate Juventus for this coup, which involves football, marketing and merchandising. It’s the complete transfer.”

It’s expected that Cristiano will take the Serie A champions to the next level as they desperately chase the Champions League title to put the icing on the cake.

Juventus have dominated Italy for several seasons now but have failed to cap that dominance with a European trophy, suffering from the same fate as PSG.

Of course the French champions also have the history factor going against them but the feeling in the Serie A is that Italian giants cannot truly claim to be dominant without the Champions League trophy.
