New Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has expressed his intention to keep hold of Robert Lewandowski this summer.
The Polish striker has been linked with a big-money move to Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea seeking a replacement for Alvaro Morata, who struggled in his first season.
Speaking to reporters about the player’s future, as reported by Goal, Kovac played down suggestions that he could leave the club this summer.
I was on the phone with Lewandowski and told him my opinion. I’m looking forward to working with him. He’s a world-class striker who has achieved a lot at this club [and] in the future will continue to perform that way.
Lewandowski has expressed his discontent in Munich on several occasions in the past, with Chelsea and Real Madrid credited with interest in the striker.
Any decision about the player’s future is likely to speed up following Poland’s exit from the World Cup at the group stages.
Morata is said to be keen on a move away from Chelsea this summer and the Blues have been linked with Gonzalo Higuain and Anthony Martial, as well as Lewandowski as a possible replacement.
