Manchester United reportedly know just how they’ll fund a transfer for Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and their solution is said to be to sell a defender.
It’s certainly a decision that makes sense as Jose Mourinho’s squad is over stocked with central defenders as they head into a new crucial Premier League season.
Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling are United’s senior options while they have youngsters such as Axel Tuanzebe and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in reserve.
Five centre-backs for a team that’s often played with a four man backline is certainly too much and doesn’t allow for any of the players to properly develop.
Many fans had expected Mourinho to move on one or two of them before the interest in Maguire grew with Jones and Smalling the bookies’ favourite to leave.
According to Manchester Evening News, the Mirror report the Red Devils are thinking of selling Marcos as they need to move on one defender in order to have the funds to invest in Harry.
Though the Argentine isn’t an indispensable player, it is a little strange to hear Jose is willing to move him on since he was solid at times for the club in the season before last.
