Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly closing in on a deal for Marcos Rojo amid Manchester United’s attempts to sign a new centre-back this summer.
Jose Mourinho has made Leicester City’s Harry Maguire a priority ahead of the 2018-19 season – with Man United willing to pay up to £60 million for the 25-year-old – but he has been told that one of the club’s current five centre-backs must be offloaded if a deal is to happen.
English duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have been previously linked with moves away from Old Trafford but it would appear that Rojo is the likeliest to depart, despite only signing a new three-year contract in March.
According to The Telegraph, Wolves are closing in on the £25 million signing of Rojo to continue their summer splurge on high profile players.
The Midlands club have already brought in Portugal no. 1 Rui Patricio and experienced AS Monaco midfielder Joao Moutinho ahead of their return to top-flight football, and have now made the Argentine a key target in an attempt to improve their defence further.
The 28-year-old didn’t travel with United to the United States for pre-season after his participation in the 2018 World Cup with Argentina earlier this summer and his comeback date is still unknown.
