Manchester United have reportedly stolen a march on Arsenal for Real Madrid forward Lucas Vazquez and see the Spain international as a potential replacement for Anthony Martial.
Vazquez has risen through the ranks at the Santiago Bernabeu and has became a key part of the first-team squad in recent years under manager Zinedine Zidance after a loan stint at Deportivo.
There are now doubts lingering over his future at Real though after Zinedine’s shock exit at the end of the 2017-18 saw national side manager Julen Lopetegui take charge a day before the 2018 World Cup, which led to his sacking.
Man United’s Premier League rivals have been linked with Vazquez all summer, with new boss Unai Emery said to be a keen admirer of the 27-year-old, but Marca report that Jose Mourinho and Co. are now favourites for his services.
Martial was arguably one of United’s better players in the first half of the campaign just gone, but Alexis Sanchez’ January arrival heavily affected the young Frenchman’s game time which has sparked his desire to leave this summer.
Considering the favoured positions of both players, Vazquez would likely be a direct replacement for Martial but Marca added that Real aren’t desperate to cash in on the player and therefore a transfer isn’t expected.
