Jesse Lingard has spoken out about the large role Jose Mourinho has played in his development during a meteoric rise at Manchester United and for England.
The Manchester United manager has shown great faith in Lingard his he took charge in May 2016 which has sparked the 25-year-old’s quality and subsequently made him a key player at both club and international level.
Lingard made a total of 48 appearances for Man United throughout the 2017-18 season, including 33 in the Premier League, as he became one of Mourinho’s most-trusted squad members.
He only has good things to say about his boss at United and explained the positive impact he’s had on his career, ironically, whilst representing England in their World Cup Round of 16 press conference ahead of Tuesday’s clash against Colombia.
“He’s been great with me. He’s put that trust and faith in me to play me in big matches week in, week out. It was only up to me then to repay that faith by playing well and putting in performances. He’s played a massive part in my development.”
Lingard was one of the stars many considered as a certainty to be included in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad for the World Cup and he’s impressed at the tournament in Russia so far, netting a stunning goal in the 6-1 win against Panama in Group G.
United supporters will be excited to see what he has left to offer in the knockout stages before returning to the club for pre-season.
