Former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel has hailed Marouane Fellaini‘s performance during Belgium’s 2-1 win over Brazil on Friday.
The 30-year-old, drafted into the starting XI after dazzling from the bench against Japan, bullied Brazil’s midfield all evening.
He was wonderfully awkward, calm on the ball, full of energy, and crucial in defence as Brazil searched for a late equaliser.
Speaking after the game, Schmeichel spoke effusively about the Man United midfielder and claimed he deserved more credit than he receives by supporters.
Schmeichel: “Fellaini for me was incredible. He’s big, awkward, he can run, a lot of people, they look at Fellaini and they see something different or someone they can’t believe that he’s like that, but technically he’s very good.” #mufc [RT] pic.twitter.com/KEnWIeoGgA

Supporters largely reacted negatively to news of Fellaini extending his future at Old Trafford but there is no denying the impact the Belgian can have under the right circumstances.
He effectively pinned Japan into a corner with his sheer height in the last 16. And against Brazil he was simply a scourge, a shithouse, an absolute nightmare with and without the ball, hassling and tackling and bodychecking and fouling Tite’s midfield all night.
It was wonderful to see, and an example of why Mourinho likes him. He is a player who never hides from pressure and can do a job. Supporters will just hope that, like Sevilla last season, Fellaini isn’t employed as a Plan A at United next term.
