Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has hailed Paul Pogba’s performance vs Belgium as France reached the final of the World Cup.
The Englishman is working as a pundit for the BBC and didn’t hold back in his praise for the former Juventus man but did pick different aspects to point out.
People normally associate Pogba with his playmaking ability or ridiculous long range shots but Ferdinand was pleased to see his discipline and work rate.
If there’s one thing the Frenchman has shown this World Cup, is that he’s able to contribute to the defensive side of things when necessary.
Many criticised Jose Mourinho for attempting to use Paul in a double pivot of a 4-2-3-1 formation which requires him to do more defending than in a 4-3-3 formation for example.
Rio Ferdinand: “Pogba, he showed today why he went for so much money. There was an understanding and maturity about his game.” #mufc [BBC]

Rio Ferdinand on Pogba: “We all know how good he is on the ball. His work rate and defensive discipline, I loved his intensity, he knew his job and his intensity was top drawer. I love him as a a player.” #mufc [BBC]

There’s no doubt the academy player has been in fine form for his country so far this summer and if he can come back to Old Trafford with a winners medal, that would certainly end many debates.
United fans would love for Pogba to carry his performances into the Premier League season as he could be key to their chances of winning the title, snatching it away from their rivals Manchester City.
