Cesc Fàbregas has confirmed when Chelsea players will return to the club’s Cobham training ground for pre-season in an update to a bizarre power control story involving manager Antonio Conte.
According to a MailOnline story from Thursday, who cite The Times, the Italian coach appeared to be at loggerheads with other staff members at the club over when the squad were due to report for pre-season training.
When a member of Chelsea’s technical staff emailed players who aren’t or weren’t at the World Cup telling them to report for training on Saturday and Sunday, Conte fired an email back.
In his response, Conte exclaimed that he was still in charge, and demanded everyone should return on Monday instead.
However, Fàbregas contradicted Conte’s demands in a tweet on Friday evening, showing that Conte didn’t get his own way.
Twitter: @mbatshuayi @VintageEden @thibautcourtois @hazardeden10 @nglkante @_OlivierGiroud_ @GaryJCahill We start preseason… https://t.co/EbwMr1uJJx (@cesc4official)
Fàbregas’ tweet (which tagged Michy Batshuayi, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Olivier Giroud, N’Golo Kanté and Gary Cahill) read:
We start pre-season tomorrow and you still haven’t finished last season. Proud of you boys.
As Chelsea’s managerial saga continues to rumble on, Conte is sure to be frustrated that his future is still unclear, although it appears unlikely that he’ll be at Stamford Bridge next season.
