Manchester United have confirmed that Sam Johnstone has joined West Bromwich Albion on a permanent transfer despite rumours claiming he would move to Aston Villa.
The goalkeeper will play in the Championship following his new club’s relegation last season after their late resurgence wasn’t enough to save them.
Johnstone was highly rated at United but couldn’t stake a claim in the starting XI with David de Gea and Sergio Romero both ahead of him in the pecking order.
He was sent out on loan multiple times so his development wouldn’t be hindered but it’s clear he’s dropped behind even Joel Pereira as the third choice keeper.
Unfortunately he’ll have to play his football elsewhere to enjoy his career but the Red Devils will surely hope he can make something of himself still.
We can confirm @SamJohnstone50 has left #MUFC to join West Bromwich Albion on a permanent deal.
All the best for the future, Sam!

Most back-up goalkeepers have the trouble of trying to unsettle the starting XI goalkeeper while Sam had to go through two who were full blooded internationals.
De Gea has represented Spain on numerous occasions while Sergio Romero has enjoyed a top career with Argentina despite not making the World Cup squad due to injury.
Nonetheless, Johnstone can now help West Brom in their attempt to return to the Premier League on the first try where he perhaps will come up against Manchester United.
