Inter Milan have made contact with Matteo Darmian‘s representatives over the possibility of a move to the San Siro, according to renowned Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.
Darmian has been expected to leave for some time after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, who gave him just 12 starts all competitions last season.
Juventus have emerged as the primary candidates to secure his signature but the arrival of right-back Joao Cancelo last has reduced the possibility of a move back to Turin.
And according to Di Marzio, first to break the news about Fred in May, Inter have made an approach for Darmian, and Manchester United, in turn, are asking for a fee of around €20m, with talks said to be ongoing.
This would be a more than satisfactory fee for a player who Man United signed for £12.7m back in 2015. His contract runs until the end of next season with an option of a further year, putting Ed Woodward in a strong place to negotiate a good deal.
Supporters will just hope that, unlike the Ivan Perisic deal which fell through last summer, United can reach a mutually satisfying agreement with Inter for Darmian, who simply needs a fresh start in Italy after a season on the bench.
