Chelsea confirm legend's return in Sarri's backroom staff

Chelsea have confirmed that Gianfranco Zola has returned to the club as part of the new set-up under Mauzirio Sarri.

As per a report on the club’s official website, Zola arrives as Sarri’s assistant, following the Italian’s move from Napoli.

Zola has not enjoyed the most successful managing career but is now taking on a new role at the club he enjoyed so much success as a player.

The Italian had been working as a pundit for a South African TV channel during the World Cup, but cut his time there short to complete a move to Chelsea.

He is set to be a vital go-between for both Sarri and the Chelsea board, something that Conte lacked following Emanalo’s departure.

Carlo Cudicini is also remaining at the club after being part of the coaching staff under Antonio Conte.

Cudicini was seen guiding Sarri around the club and giving him a tour of the training facilities prior to his appointment.
