Chelsea are reportedly set to try and convince outgoing Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane to make the move to West London and take charge at Stamford Bridge.
The decision of Zidane to leave Real Madrid after an incredibly successful three years at the helm shocked many fans and pundits alike, and despite saying he isn’t looking to manage another team just yet, the Daily Mail report Chelsea will seek to change his mind.
With Maurizio Sarri now thought to no longer be the de facto replacement to current manager Antonio Conte, other names like Laurent Blanc and Avram Grant have entered the ring.
Indeed, as of the time of writing, Conte is still in charge at Chelsea. With the holidaying director Marina Granovskaia returning to London next week, the termination of the Italian’s contract is expected then.
Zidane won the Champions League at every attempt with Los Blancos, and finished the 2016/17 La Liga season at the top of the pile.
The Frenchman said upon the conclusion of his press conference where he announced his resignation,
I’m not going to coach another team right now.
I’m not looking for another team.
Roman Abramovich has recently withdrawn plans to expand Stamford Bridge in protest at ongoing visa issues, but the twisting of Zidane’s arm to take another management job would be a move of considerable intent to return Chelsea to Champions League glory.
