Jack Wilshere has provided an update on his ongoing discussions with Arsenal over a new contract and admitted that Arsene Wenger’s impending exit has changed things (via Sky Sports).
For months, Arsenal offering Jack Wilshere a new contract extension seemed like a mere formality but that is no longer the case.
The midfielder has been locked in negotiations with the club for some time and it seems that both have reached an impasse with Wilshere’s current deal set to expire in the summer.
There was a feeling that the situation would only get more complicated with Arsene Wenger’s impending exit from the club and Wilshere has confirmed that that is indeed the case.
“Obviously the boss has left which has changed things a little bit because I don’t know who is going to be the manager next year and that can change things,” Wilshere said in an interview.
“But I am hopeful and the club is hopeful we can get something done.”
Nobody appears to know whether Jack Wilshere will still be an Arsenal player next season. The mere idea of Wilshere leaving the club seemed completely absurd just a few years ago but the midfielder’s injuries have undoubtedly hurt his progress. We can only wait and see what happens in the coming weeks.
