Gary Neville has slammed Manchester United’s constant loss of possession in a woeful 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
It was a display full of sloppiness, lethargy and lacking attitude to a severe extent and it was no surprise to see Brighton take the lead in the second-half.
They held onto that lead, with man United failing to seriously challenge the home team, anyway. The result secured Brighton’s Premier League future, and means they will definitely be in England’s top division next season.
“Well, United gave the ball away unchallenged and unforced,” Neville told Sky Sports, in reference specifically to Brighton’s goal, which was scored after United gave the ball away in the other half of the pitch.
It was constant sloppy passes that Brighton easily intercepted and United struggled to recover with Brighton on the counter-attack.
“[It’s] what happened all night,” Neville continued. “It was only a matter of time to be honest, they deserved the goal.” Brighton deserved their victory, having been by far the better side.
They harried United all game, while Jose Mourinho’s visitors put very little effort into the game until the final 10 minutes, when they went all out for an equaliser.
Such an attitude means United will never win the title. Things have to change.
