Jose Mourinho has made contact with AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci over a potential move to Manchester United in the summer, according to reports from Italy.
The 55-year-old wants to add another central defender to his ranks over the summer, with Samuel Umtiti, Toby Alderweireld and Clement Lenglet emerging as targets.
Bonucci served as part of an incorrigible Juventus backline along with Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Gianluigi Buffon for seven seasons, winning the Scudetto six times, but has endured a difficult opening campaign at AC Milan.
And according to Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, Mourinho has made contact with AC Milan and Bonucci’s representatives over the possibility of a move to Old Trafford in the summer.
The Rossoneri will have to contend with a series of high profile exits amid a tumultuous campaign which has left them in sixth place and with some notable financial problems. Gianluigi Donnarruma is expected to be one of the first out of the door.
And Milan may indeed feel compelled to let another big name go in the form of Bonucci, whose sheer experience and presence at the heart of defence would give Mourinho’s team – the best defensive side in the Premier League this season – and added veneer of grit heading into next season, and especially the Champions League.
